This was NOT the final. This was the semifinal match played in Guadalajara - which Italy won 4-3. Italy went on to loose to Brazil in the Final 4-2 in Mexico City.

italy won well done. germany didn't deserve ever win they didn't deserve win against fantastic hungarians in 1954 either but they broke 2 hungarian players' legs cause they fought they didn't play whereas hungarians played for beauty with their genius ferenc puskas & here the lost in their own manner by italy.

I can never forget the night of this match, which started at 1 a.m. Greek time. I was 13. We did not have a TV set. So, my father went to watch it at a friend. He had told me to sleep since I was to go to school next day. When he returned (3:30 a..) he woke me up to announce the score. I was so dissappointed I had missed that match...

I didn't know this until recently but Italy are Germany's bogey team.
Having said that it was probably the effort of beating a great England team in the q/final with extra time that weakened the Germans. Don't forget as well they didn't have the vast number of subs allowed today.

In those days real men actually played, not assholes complaining ever minute and diving (Iniesta, L. Suarez, C.Ronaldo and the whole spanish team), even though I'm not a German football fan I have always admired their mentality, they never give up and when you don't expect anything from them they always reach far in the tournaments, no one deserved the defeat that day, amazing match, everything that represents old football was in the pitch that day. FORZA ITALIA!
